Club Fitting Variable No. 3: Shaft Flex

September 29, 2015

If club fitting variable No. 1 is length and No. 2 is lie angle, then No. 3 is shaft flex. Shaft flex is defined as the relative bending and stiffness of a golf shaft. Flex influences both distance and direction. Shafts were made out of hickory wood from the 1800s until the 1920s when steel was finally allowed by the USGA. In the golf industry, the terms bend point, kick point,…

Spieth Caps Off Dream Season With Tour Title

September 28, 2015

I’m running out of things to say about Jordan Spieth. And he’s just 22 years-old! But honestly, what else can you say about a guy who won the year’s first two majors and could have won all four? Think about that…

Todd Sones: In Jordan We Trust

September 24, 2015

Putting guru Todd Sones recently published an article for Golf Channel Academy detailing why Jordan Spieth is the PGA Tour’s best putter. Among his reasons for saying so is that Spieth has a stroke that he can trust under pressure. I would argue that it’s because Spieth still has young nerves. Todd is one of Golf Digest’s 50 Best Teachers in America and has been a Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor every…

If the Shoe Fits…

September 23, 2015

Every month or so, the Golf Academy sends out an email newsletter to prospective students and alumni with some interesting or useful information. This month’s blast features an article on golf shoes, and since I’m a bit of a shoe addict myself, I thought I would pass it along: You Should Know The last few years have seen something of an explosion in the golf fashion industry. Every edition of the annual…
