Bear Creek played host to our final outdoor Skills Development session of the semester today, and it was a final exam of sorts. Here’s how the Skills Test is scored:

Putting
20 Putts – North, South, East, and West around the hole from 3′, 6′, 9′, 12′, and 15′
Each make is worth 3 points
33 points = 0 handicap (scratch)

Lag Putting
10 Putts – Two putts from 20′, 30′, 40′, 50′, and 60′
A make is worth 4 points
0-3 ft. = 3 pts.
3-6 ft. = 2 pts.
6-9 ft. = 1 pt.
29 points = 0 handicap (scratch)

Pitching
10 shots – Five from 10-15 yds. from pin, five from 10-15 yds. off the green
A make is worth 4 points
0-5 ft. = 3 pts.
5-10 ft. = 2 pts.
10-15 ft. = 1 pt.
26 points = 0 handicap (scratch)

Chipping
10 shots – Five from 30-40 ft., five from 50-60 ft.
A make is worth 4 pts.
0-3 ft. = 3 pts.
3-6 ft. = 2 pts.
6-9 ft. = 1 pt.
28 points = 0 handicap (scratch)

Bunker Shots
10 shots from any lie
A make is worth 4 pts.
0-5 ft. = 3 pts.
5-10 ft. = 2 pts.
10-15 ft. = 1 pt.
28 points = 0 handicap (scratch)

At the conclusion of the test, take all five handicap scores, add them together, and divide that number by five to determine your short game handicap average.
