Coach Just Wanted to Be Coached

I’ll never forget one of my earliest interactions with Matt Miller. Miller played football (among other sports) in college and was coaching high school football at the time when he flat-out told me, “I want to be coached.” This was probably 2-3 years ago now.

I didn’t know how to help him. But what Miller was really telling me was he didn’t need to learn to practice, he needed to learn how to practice, with a purpose. So when I was ready to embark on my coaching journey, Miller was one of the first people I contacted. I emailed him during the Men’s Member/Guest recently to ask him how it was going. “Can’t wait to tell you,” he wrote. “I have been playing beyond my Handicap. Thank you very much.” No Coach, thank YOU.
