On Saturday, a little more than a week after returning from the PGA Level 3 Seminar in Port St. Lucie, Florida, a letter arrived in our mailbox from the PGA of America. “That’s odd,” I thought to myself, “since I didn’t send them anything.” It came on official PGA of America letterhead. It read:
Dear Dan:
Congratulations on completing a successful week of Level 3 seminars at the PGA Education Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida. This letter is to provide you with details on the remaining steps toward your goal of achieving Class A membership in the PGA of America.
- Complete your work experience activities then submit the portfolio for review.
- Upon receipt of approval of your portfolio, schedule Level 3 testing.
- Once you have registered for the Level 3 tesing, log on to pga.org, click on Forms, then Form #302 to obtain the Membership application. Complete the application and submit to the Membership Services Department for preliminary processing.
[Note: This falls exactly in-line with what PGA Business Operations Director Erik Nielsen (PGA) told us before we left at the end of the 5th day. He told us we should apply for Membership as we prepare for the Level 3 exams.]
Once your successful Level 3 testing results have been confirmed in our office and you have satisfied all other membership requirements, including submission of the Membership Application, you will be elected to Class A PGA Membership in the next regularly-scheduled monthly election.
Both the Education Department and the Membership Services Department are here to assist in any way possible. The Education Department should be contacted at (866) 866-3382, ext. 6, for any concerns related to the portfolio or testing. For questions about Membership, please contact the Membership Services Department at (800) 474-2776.
Again, congratulations, and we look forward to you soon becoming one of the 29,000 PGA Professionals who are experts in the game and business of golf.
Sincerely,
Tom Brawley, Senior Director

Either way, I thought it was pretty cool to receive this letter. It’s also a reminder to keep the pedal down and hammer out that Portfolio. Now back to work! I just crossed the 40% Completion threshold, and the first of my five-part lesson series with an advanced player (single-digit handicap) starts tomorrow.
I was stoked to see that letter!
Me too man! Me too.
Keep it going… hammer down to the finish!
