Against the European Tour’s wishes, the PGA Tour scheduled the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational opposite the 100th playing of the French Open in Paris. The European Tour has elected not to sanction the WGC event, meaning it won’t count towards the tour minimum, nor will any money or Ryder Cup points be accrued.
As a way to boost participation in the sport, the R&A has announced that 30 amateur golfers will play a nine-hole event at Royal Troon on the eve of this year’s Open Championship.
