Hey there! I know it’s been a while, but it’s time to bring you up-to-date.
Thursday, October 1st was my last day in the Golf Shop, and now, I am a full-time Golf Coach! This is a dream come true for me not only because I get to set my own schedule and spend more time with my wife and two young boys, but I get to be out on the golf course every single day in order to spend more time with golfers who want to have more fun and shoot lower scores while doing so.
So how did all of this come about? Well, when lessons were suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it didn’t take long for me to become miserable at work. I couldn’t figure out why, but after a little soul-searching, I realized that 25-30% of every work day had been spent out on the driving range or the golf course interacting with our Members and guests, building relationships, and making connections. Overnight, that all disappeared!
As an Assistant Golf Professional, the next logical step in my professional career in my mind was always to become a Head Golf Professional. But after getting quarantined in the Shop, I quickly realized that becoming a Head Golf Professional also meant more time spent behind a counter, sitting at a computer, answering phones and booking tee times. Suddenly, the prospect of coaching others and helping them to achieve their goals didn’t feel quite as daunting as spending the next 20 years of my working life in a Golf Shop.
Once the lesson suspension was finally lifted, I found myself restricted to teaching just ten lessons per week despite the fact I was booked three weeks in advance, and my waiting list was 30 people long. There had to be a better way to satisfy that demand while pursuing my passion at the same time.
Thanks to the help of Will Robins and PGA.coach, I got the mentorship, coaching, and confidence I needed to make the transition from individual, private lessons to group coaching.
The advent of Zoom video communications technology also made it possible for me to study and learn from the best golf coaches in the world from Australia, Great Britain, and New Zealand to South Africa, Spain, and the United States. It didn’t take long for me to get up to speed, and I’m proud to say that, as of September 1st, I stopped booking private lessons. The above video was shot the same afternoon I taught my very last one.
In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be posting testimonials from actual players who I’m coaching. These are real results, and whenever possible, these clips will be edited as little as possible so you can hear their raw, first-hand accounts of their on and off-course experiences. It has already changed my life, and I know that it will change yours too. Better coaching really does mean better golf!
Hi Dan! You helped me through Levels 2 and 3 last year. Thank you! I love everyday, waking up as a PGA Professional and growing the game. What brings me to this site was your involvement with PGA Coach and Will Robins, who I absolutely enjoyed listening to in the PGA Coach modules. I was hoping that you would share your experiences with group coaching.
Thanks.
Dave,
It’s great to hear from you! Transitioning to Group Coaching has absolutely changed my life, and it’ll change yours too. Shoot me an email: dbubany@danbubanygolf.com, and we’ll connect.
