After careful consideration, I am proud to announce that I have accepted an Assistant Golf Professional position at La Paloma Country Club and will be working under Head Golf Professional Mark Thesing, PGA, beginning later this month.
La Paloma is a 27-hole Troon Prive’ facility “nestled into the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains” in northwest Tucson. It’s also affiliated with Westin Hotels & Resorts, making it one of the city’s most popular resort vacation destinations.
As part of a $35 million resort-wide renovation completed in October of 2013, the Jack Nicklaus Signature course (one of his earliest designs opening in 1984) received a complete overhaul of both its bunkers and green complexes. The greens are now the same Mini-Verde Bermuda grass that’s found at TPC Sawgrass, while the sand in every bunker has been replaced with white, USGA regulation sand imported from California.
La Paloma is managed by Scottsdale-based Troon Golf, which started as a one-facility operation in 1990 and has since grown into the largest third-party manager of golf and Club operations worldwide with more than 250 courses (in 32 countries and 37 states) in its portfolio.
Despite what you may have heard about the current state of the golf industry, La Paloma is already nearly at its 450-member capacity heading into the hot summer months, which is a great sign!
I am excited to continue to grow the Country Club’s junior golf program following its five summer golf camps, as well as the opportunity to put my Golf Academy Teaching and Club Fitting/Repair Certifications to good use. In addition to working in the pro shop, I will also be teaching private and group lessons while working towards my PGA Class A Certification.
If you’re ever in town, please stop by 3660 E. Sunrise Drive and say hello. Of course, if you already live in Tucson and wish to schedule a private lesson, please call 602.448.6871.
Congratulations, Dan — your hard work has paid off. Here’s to the start of an exciting career!
Thank you so much for all your kind words. It really means a lot!
Why am I not surprised?! La Paloma is one lucky golf club. Best wishes!
Thanks Carl!
Outstanding! I knew it was just a matter of time before you landed at a prestigious golf course. So happy for you.
